The low-speed inducer should be designed t o operate with a very low NPSH and t o generate sufficient head t o prevent cavitation of the main pump at all times. The low- speed inducer absorbs power from the turbopump and it is important t o design an efficient and compact inducer-turbine combination which requires minimum horsepower from the hot gas turbine. Analysis of the system indicated that four primary interdependent variables w i l l determine the low-speed inducer configuration. These are inducer head (OH),speed (7l ) and turbine weight flow (&), and main turbopump speed (N). The manner in which the optimum low-speed inducer operating point was established f o r a given design require- ment is described below. By assuming a-turbine weight flow and the low-speed inducer head, the main pump operating point for the required overall head rise and flow may be determined by trial and error. The inducer head coeffici-ent is determined such that the power required by the inducer equals the power output of the turbine for the assumed weight flow. Calculations L82 - -.
