are repeated for several turbine weight flows and low-speed inducer heads, and parametric curves are generated from which the optimum design point is obtained, Figures 2 and 3 show the parametric design curves for a low-speed inducer operating with the J-2s turbopump. The following design information must be used t o generate the above parametric curves: The main pump performance characteristics, low- speed inducer and turbine t i p diameters, and turbine efficiency and general design type. The low-speed inducer diameter is determined from duct size limitations and available suction pressure. Due to the particular design configuration, the turbine diameter is limited by the inducer size. The following assumptions were also made in the optimum inducer design study: 1. Inducer t i p diameter is constant. 2. Inducer efficiency is approximated by the square root of the product of7T’and the inducer head coefficient, for the range of 0.08 t o 0.20 head coefficient. 3. The f l u i d i s incompressible. 4. Turbine efficiency includes a l l bearing and seal losses, disc friction, etc. A l l the high pressure available t o the turbine (either from the main pump discharge or the main inducer discharge) is used in the turbine t o generate power t o drive the low-speed inducer (iqee,no throttling losses in the return line). A study of the parametric curves i n Figures 2 and 3 indicate that minimum overall horsepower i s obtaised f o r a low-speed inducer designed for maximum head and head coefficient, maximum number of turbine stages and blade height, and minimum turbine weight flow. 5.PDF Image | New and Innovative Product
