THERMODYNAMIC CONSIDERATIONS To investigate the thermodynamic properties of the cryogenic fluid, and insure that the fluid'at all points was indeed a liquid, the energy balance and continuity equations for the low-speed inducer and main pump combinationwtx used to calculate the fluid enthalpies. The various state points are plotted on an enthalpy-entropy diagram for oxygen and hydrogen shown in Figures 4and 5. The critical state point for the fluid was found to be at the turbine discharge since it is nearest the saturation line. Assuming a reasonable operating point for the low-speed inducers, indications are that in LOX there are no limitations. This is due t o the fact there are no high throt- tling losses in the turbine weight flow return line. A low-speed inducer operating with the main fuel pump, however, is limited by the amount of throttling that can be done in the return line before the liquid begins t o boil. This limitation, in turn, determines the minimum pressure required at the turbine discharge. For 20 percent return flow this minimum pressure was 59 psi. As a result, the inducer head rise can be no less than 950 ft. or the possibility of the turbine discharge fluid flashing at the turbine exit exists. HYDRODYNAMIC DESIGN Based on the operating requirements obtained from f l i g h t data and information obtained from the optimization and thermodynamic analyses, preliminary designs of a LOX and fuel low-speed inducer were made.PDF Image | New and Innovative Product
