LOW-SPEXD INDUCER FOR La, The low-speed inducer f o r LHs was designed t o be compatible with the characteristics of the J-2s fuel turbopump operating at a 265,000 lb, engine thrust level. This requires a through flow of 9691 gpm with an available NPSH of 23 feet. Due to the low NPSH level, the inlet duct size was chosen such that the velocity would be less than the . Conservatively, this velocity would be 24FPS which sets the inlet duct diameter at 12.814 inch. This pipe diameter w i l l match the required inducer inlet dimensions. For a high head rise and high head coefficient optimum inducer (a high head is also required to prevent any flashing at the inducer discharge), the inducer head was set at 984 ft. and the speed at 7100 I'pm which resulted in the following design operating point for the low-speed inducer: Q = 9691 gpm H = 984 f t N= 7100 rpm HP = 217 $ = .07 v'+= .I99 Nss= 67,000 The inducer design has a tapered hub and tapered t i p with the fol- 1Ys = 3960 lowing dimensions: Hub Diameter Tip Diameter Inlet 3.54 12.89 Discharge 8.23 11.80 The inducer was designed for free vortex flow at the discharge.
