Figures 10 and 11 are actual performance maps of the J-2s fuel pump. The pressure at the turbine discharge is sufficient to preclude any vaporization as it exits at 2 psi above vapor pressure of the main stream. LOW-SPEEDINDUCERFOR LOX The low-speed inducer forLOXwas designed to be compatible with the characteristics of the J-2s LOX turbopump operating at the 265,000 lb. engine thrust level. This requires a through flow of 3291 gpm with an availableNPSHof six feet. Due to the low NPSH level the inlet duct size was chosen such that the velocity would be much less than J2gNPSH: Thus, a velocity of 12.7 FPS was considered reasonable and was set at 11.95 in. diameter. This pipe diameter will match the required inducer inlet dimensions. The J-2s inducer was scaled to a larger size to meet suction require- ments. The scale factor used was 1.49 which gives an inlet t i p diameter of 11.60 in. and a hub diameter of 4.30 in. The operating point for this inducer is as follows: Q = 3291 gpm H= 175ft HP = 216 $=.07 v'.=0.19 Nss= 51,000 N Ns= 4060 C. 3400 rpm The inducer was designed for a free vortex flow at the discharge. Figures 12 and 13 are estimated performance curves of the LOX low- speed inducer. Two sets of turning vanes at the inducer discharge were used to turn the fluid t o axial direction and t o provide for structural support and passage of the turbine weight flow.
