SYSTEM WITH LOW-SPEED INDUCER When a low-speed inducer is incorporated into the fuel feed system, no change is required in the basic configuration of the engine or the oxidizer inlet line. The inducer is mounted in the fuel inlet line at a position chosen t o be midway between the fuel tank outlet and the main pump inlet. The fluid used to drive the inducer hydraulic turbine is taken from the discharge of the main pump inducer section and routed to the turbine inlet manifold. Characteristics repre- sentative of low head and high head inducers were considered in the study. Low-Head Inducer To investigate the characteristics of low-head inducers, four operating points of inducer head rise and head coefficient were selected for study. These points were: Hft (Y 300 e 12 300 .02 700 .20 700 .065 The reason for selecting these four points was to determine if there were any start effects due to inducer head and head coefficient. Using the main pump and turbine performance curves for each of the selected low-speed inducer operating poiuts, a series of starts was run for various fuel tank pressures. The results showed that there was no significant difference in starting performance for this-range of head rise and head coefficient. A low NPSP (approximately 1 psi) start for an inducer designed forTOOfeet of head at a head coefficient 0.12 is shown in Figures 24. through .
