FREQUEN- RESPONSE ANALYSIS To evaluate the effects of the low-speed inducer on engine feed system responses it must be recalled that if the closed loop is unstable it w i l l be at a structural frequency where the loop gain is greater than one and the loop phase shift is zero. If the gain of the engine-LOX feed system portion of the loop can be reduced, the effect is stabilizing. At a structural resonance, engine thrust leads the structural acceleration by 90 degrees. To provide the zero degree phase condition for insta- b i l i t i e s , the thrust must lag the acceleration by 90° through the engine and LOX feed-system. Therefore, changing the phase lag of thrust to acceleration in the range of critical structural frequencies is stabiliz- ing. The c r i t i c a l frequency range encountered on rocket-powered vehicles is about5to20Hz. It should be noted that the gain expresses the ratio of chamber pressure variation in lbs/in2to structural acceleration in inchedsecond squared, If the structural acceleration were expressed in terms of g's rather than inchedsec2,the gain curves would be shifted by i- 52db, the -55 dbshowninFigure37at.1Hzbecoming-3db.
