ally connections, the Focus website, and any other appropriate mechanism for contacting customers. USDOE Training Coordination The Focus Industrial program will coordinate with the USDOE Training Coordinator to provide logistical support and Wisconsin venues for special USDOE training events in various best practice areas, including compressed air, steam, pump, and fan systems (four Qualified Specialist classes and nine Technology Assessment classes (such as Fan Assessment). Additional training opportunities will be pursued in the paper machine and process heating areas. Up to now, Wisconsin’s Focus has helped to bring USDOE training to the state by covering the costs of marketing, registration, meals and venues while the USDOE has covered the costs of speakers and materials. Under this proposal, speaker fees and materials will also be covered. All trainings arranged under this proposal will meet USDOE protocols and specifications. Training will be evaluated through participant surveys and feedback will be provided to instructors. The Focus central office and Energy Advisors will also follow up with training participants to encourage customer projects. Technology Demonstration CleanTech Partners (CTP) has identified three new technologies that have the potential to save Wisconsin industry large amounts of energy and reduce carbon emissions. The technologies fall into two broad categories; 1) control technologies that take existing processes and provide better online monitoring of materials and respond in real time to keep processes operating in tight control and 2) heat recovery technologies that turn waste heat into electricity and/or chilled water. As of this writing, two of the technologies are being installed in Wisconsin and should be ready for onsite demonstrations in 2009. The third should be ready in 2010. CTP has a formal relationship with the technology providers. It is anticipated that at least one more technology will be identified for demonstration in 2011, the third year of this program. CTP plans to deliver four commercial technologies demonstrations highlighted and promoted through case studies, tours and conference presentations. The energy savings and carbon reduction benefits will be highlighted for these demonstrations. Tech Demonstration #1: Absorption Chiller Produces Chilled and Hot Water - Summer, 2009 Energy Concepts Co. (ECC) manufactures an energy-efficient, heat-activated absorption system called ThermoSorberTM, which uses waste-heat for air conditioning or refrigeration and hot water. The process provides hot water to 160°F, normally the primary product, and cooling in a supplementary role. This ensures high year-round utilization and short payback periods. This appliance reduces the utility bill for hot water and cooling by more than half, compared to the most commercially available equipment. Key Features include: • Provides 160°F hot water at gas COP = 1.6 • 50% reduction in utility bill for hot water and cooling • Pays back in less than two years • Simple, robust absorption technology • Gas, propane, steam or waste-heat fired
