Tok’s Experience with the Green Machine: ORC Pros and Cons Milestones • The ElectraTherm Green Machine [GM] was procured by the Tanana Chiefs Council [TCC] with a grant from the AEA and provided to ACEP to study • ACEP laboratory tested the GM at UAF facilities • ACEP was awarded a new AEA grant to continue studies of the GM incorporating it into operations at a diesel‐fired plant in a TCC affiliated community • AP&T was approached by ACEP for their participation in the study and the concept of testing the GM at the Tok powerplant • AP&T accepted and negotiated an agreement with ACEP • AP&T was contracted to engineer, install, commission and perform O&M on the GM • AP&T was given the option of negotiating for the acquisition of the GM at the and of the study period • AP&T installed the GM and upgraded the heat recovery system in the powerplant to optimize GM performance • The GM was put into service in August 2013 • The GM had a major component failure in October 2013 taking it out of service • AP&T, ACEP, TCC and ElectraTherm are currently discussing options for the futurePDF Image | Alaska Rural Energy Conference 2014
