These briquettes (below) have a heating value of about 7,900 Btu’s which is just slightly lower than wood and can be used in a pellet or wood stove. The compactor is able to process and create 300 lbs of product an hour. Currently, there is not a sustainable supply and cost effective handling method or feasible business plan. This will also help act as a mitigating effect to the MSW problem currently plaguing the city. The expectation is when Sitka and the community organize their recycling efforts the business plan will take off and provides a cost effective low emission fuel for the city of Sitka.
