Assessment of the Costs of Geothermal Power Generation in New Zealand For geothermal developments in the size range of 20 to 50 MW in an otherwise undeveloped field, annual production well decline rates of 3% are typical. This value has been assumed in this study to predict M&R requirements. An example of a decline analysis is given in Figure 5-2 for development Option # 19 from Table 5-2 with 5 production wells initially required at start up. A further 6 M& R wells are predicted to be required throughout the 30 year production life with the timing of individual wells as indicated.
