6th International Ege Energy Symposium & Exhibition Oral Presentations 3 CONTROL SYSTEM DESIGN AND STRATEGY FOR TRACKING THE PLATFORM Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is selected to design the control system since its ability to work under difficult industrial and weather conditions. To maximize the photovoltaic energy obtained from the sun a control system for an existing tracking system at Afyon Kocatepe University is developed. It is also aimed to determine the effect of tracking on different parameters obtained from solar modules such as generations, temperatures, total global solar radiations exposed to the modules. A mechanical system left from a previous project (mentioned in [15]) that was aimed to determine the temperature decrease of a solar heater in case of tracking the sun is adopted in this study. Defected mechanical parts of this useless tracking system are repaired. In this study it is aimed to show the efficiency of tracking system using voltage and current data obtained from both movable and fixed mono-crystal photovoltaic platforms. Once the measure parameters are decided, the type and module dimensions of PLC system should be determined. To control the system it was mandatory to measure the angle values of east- west direction and tilt angle beside the current and voltage values. Therefore different sensors are used to measure these parameters. Servo machines are selected and used for motion. Since the PV output voltages were not appropriate for PLC a voltage divider circuit presented in Fig. 3 is built using tuning resistor to measure the output voltages of the modules. Primer current capacity of converter is 50A whereas conversion ratio is 1:1000. The output current of the converter is crossed across a resistor and voltage drop across that resistor is increased by an OP-AMP (Operational Amplifier). Gain of the OP-AMP is altered by a tuning resistor to make the calibration of the current as seen in Fig. 4.
