To measure the electricity generations of photovoltaic modules DC loads are used. The measuring principle was to consume the generation immediately according to Equation 1. The output currents and voltages of the loads are simply multiplied and generations of Pv modules are calculated. The parameters of the circuits are arranged according to the specifications of the photovoltaic panels given in Table 1. In this study a simple tracking strategy is developed and PLC software is written according to this strategy. To show the effect of tracking system at winter conditions the motion signal is send to the PLC hourly. The azimuth angle is calculated according to Equation 2. (2) Here s is the hourly inclining angle, d, b are the rising and setting angles of sun, respectively whereas td and tb are the rising and setting times of sun, respectively. The difference presented at the denominator of Equation 2 corresponds to the daily insolation time. In this study the tilt angle of the system is fixed. However it is possible to alter the tilt angle easily to send the calculated tilt angle signal to the engines of the system via PLC. 4 RESULTS To show the efficiency of the tracking on winter times at Afyonkarahisar region, measured data on particular days of February, 2012 from both tracking and fixed systems are presented in this section. Same mono crystalline panels are situated on fixed and tracking platforms. Both systems are adjusted to the same tilt angles. Tracking system moved hourly according to the strategy presented at the previous section. DC lamps are selected as loads and same loads are tied to the outputs of the panels. Output currents and voltages are measured and evaluated. The minutely power generations of the fixed and moved modules for 1 week are illustrated in Fig’s 5 and 6, respectively. 28-30 June 2012, Izmir Turkey 522
