Visits to communities to share results and obtain local knowledge. A presentation should be made that describes the NANAGAP project to NANA residents, so that they are aware and supportive of the project. This presentation should outline the project objectives, clarify what is needed at this point, and facilitate collaboration and the exchange of information is necessary for a thorough geothermal assessment. Residents should be queried as to their feelings about geothermal development at hot springs sites. After the presentation, interviews with individuals and organizations should be conducted in NANA communities to: 1. Obtain well logs and/or well data from NANA region a. Kotzebue (by Ferguson building) b. Kobuk (30-foot community well, others?) c. Ambler (167-foot well near the Kobuk River, 80-foot standby well at the water treatment plant, others?) d. Others? 2. Investigate rumored hot well in Kotzebue. 3. Locate/confirm Inmachuk hot springs and other sites of rumored geothermal activity (see p. 12) 4. View and discuss any data collected by the city of Kotzebue / Kotzebue Electric Association staff (seismic, gravity, and other information). a. Seismic data obtained by Western Geophysical for Chevron b. Aeromagnetic data from Aeroservice? ASRC Oil and gas study? Interview questions include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Please describe any hot springs or warm ground sites close to your community. Please include the name of the site (if any), distance from town, and any other relevant information. What are the hot springs used for, and what sort of facilities are out there? 2. Has any geothermal, geological, geochemical, or other exploration occurred in or near your community in recent years? If so, what was done, and by which organizations? 3. Are there any water wells in your community? If so, please describe the well(s) and provide contact information for the owners if possible. Site visits of unmapped geothermal areas. If unmapped geothermal areas are identified based on interviews with NANA residents, these sites should be visited to obtain: 1. Distance between site and community and GPS coordinates of site 2. Access issues and facilities 3. Environmental/social/archaeological characteristics of site 4. Temperature and flow measurements geothermal fluids 5. Collection of thermal waters for chemical analyses 6. Reconnaissance level geologic setting of site (faults and/or pluton present?) 13
