The velocity diagrams for the two rotor configurations are shown in figure 4. As seen in 4(a), the stator has radial flow at the inlet and 73 ° of turning; rotor I has an incidence of 6.5 ° at the midspan and has a negative swirl at the exit. The velocity dia- gram in figure 4(b) is for the restaggered vane with rotor II. In this configuration, the vane turns the flow 71.5 ° ; rotor II has an incidence of 21.4 ° and also has a negative exit swirl, which is a positive contribution toward turbine work output, Acomparison of the two compact rotors and the baseline rotor tested at the Lewis facility (ref. 5) is shown in figure 5. Although the stator and rotors tested were solid uncooled configurations, the aerodynamic contours were designed with sufficient thick- ness to accommodate internal cooling requirements. Coordinates for the stator vanes, rotor blades, and endwalls for the test hardware are given in the tables and sketch of appendix A. The rotor blade geometry is listed for the hub and shroud and for three sections of the blade. Additional design details on the geometry are included in reference 2.
