At the same time, ORC system can also improve fuel consumption and increase powertrain power. One of the main targets of this paper is to investigate the potential for improvement of internal combustion engines by implementing an ORC system that has an efficient expander. In this study, the benefits of the ORC system on the performance and fuel consumption of the engine are investigated, while the effects of the choice of working fluid are explored. Figure 6 presents the improvement of the brake specific fuel consumption (bsfc) for both R245fa and R123 working fluids at different engine operating points.
