The selection of turbine is often commenced based on the applicationβs operating conditions and constraints such as rotational speed, mass flow rate and power. Knowing such inputs allows determination of two non-dimensional parameters using Equations Equation 3-6 to 3-10. The intersection of these two non-dimensional values determines the optimum turbine configuration as illustrated in Figure 3-1. In this chapter the defined operating conditions for a small-scale laboratory-based turbine are such that the value of non- dimensional parameters will be laying on the optimum operating region of RITs (as will be shown in the following sections).
