A flow diagram and a photograph of test facility for the turbine-compressor refrigerator consists of two turbine-compressors (TC1 and TC2) and heat exchangers. The turbine-compressor has a turbo-compressor and a turbo-expander on one side of its shaft and a turbo-compressor on the other side of the shaft. The two turbine-compressors are same motor capacity and same rotational speed because two compressors are connected in series and two turbo-expanders are set in parallel. This means that almost mechanical parts of the turbine-compressor can be used for both of TC1 and TC2. Therefore we made one prototype turbine-compressor and have plan of performance test of the first stage compressor, second stage compressor and turbo-expander using prototype turbine-compressor. A schematic of 10 kW class turbo-Brayton refrigerator is shown in Figure 5. The performance test facility is completed and the prototype turbine-compressor is installed already in the test facility. The performance test will be started immediately and the 10 kW class turbo-Brayton refrigerator for HTS power cable will be commercialized during 2014. Turbine-compressors Cold box FIGURE 5.
