Abstract Energy storage is becoming one of the hot topics of the energy industry. Throughout the past years, the direction of energy research was into developing more efficient energy production. That nowadays Energy production methods are plentiful, however, the energy storage capacity is very low compared to the demand. Lately, studies are being done to develop bulk energy storage and the current energy storage methods are expensive and complicated for commercial use which makes them inconvenient for users. The aim of this project is to design an effective, cheap and simple energy storage system. By constructing a solar receiver that absorbs solar irradiance adequately throughout the whole day, taking into consideration solar angles changes. Furthermore, adding a Fresnel lens which increases the effectiveness of the system. Next step, is to choose a material found in abundance, with the optimum characteristics, of energy storage and heat transfer. After that, we picked an adequate, well-insulated storage tank with a capacity that meets its demand. Later we designed the most efficient heat exchanger design to achieve the best thermal exchange. Thermal energy storage field has been growing recently accordingly with the demand for new and effective storage materials. In this project, sand which is a very abundant material in this region. Silica sand in Jordan is mainly found south of the country and 95.5% to 98.31% is SiO2 [1].
