The thickness for the frit frames was matched to the thickness of the frits, the outlet plate was made of 6 mm thick material, and the port plates were made of 12 mm thick material in order to minimize buckling of the plate under stress once the bolts were tightened. These relatively thick port plates were the main contributor to the overall device dimensions of 2 in.×2 in.×1.5 in. Pictures of the components within the device can be seen in Figure 2-5. Cell Preparation and Assembly Before assembly, some components had to be prepared and treated.
