IbD PU Deliverable 3.1 Li et al. (2015b) used a RSR in the absorption process of NH3 into water. The schematic of the RSR is shown in Figure 19. The overall volumetric mass transfer coefficient in the RSR varied with the operational parameters, such as the rotational speed of the rotor, liquid flow rate and gas flow rate. A comparison of the overall volumetric mass transfer coefficient was also done between the RSR and a rotating packed bed reactor (RPB), showing that of the RSR to be 13% higher than the RPB. A Silverson double screen 150/250MS inline rotor-stator mixer was used in the work of Jasińska et al. (2014) for the study of mixing of immiscible liquids to form stable emulsions in the RSR. Efficiency of mixing in the rotor-stator reactor was found to decrease with the increase of rotor speed as the sizes of the smallest drops decreased (Figure 20). 22
