Another research project involved the design of a rotating drum reactor for the wastewater treatment with an illumination source and different reactor drum configurations in Meunier et al. (2010). The reactor, driven by the hydraulic force of falling water, increased the catalyst immobilization surface area which led to the increase of overall reaction rate from 0.046 mg/L/min to 0.16 mg/L/min. 4.8 Rotary electrolyser The rotary electrolyser brings the idea of exploiting centrifugal acceleration fields into the gas disengagement facilities (electrolyser) as a novel technology in PI. The application of centrifugal acceleration to the electrolyser can result in a major improvement to the energy efficiency. Lao et al. (2011) carried out a rotary electrolysis cell design (Figure 32 and Figure 33). The new design successfully demonstrated the intensification of hydrogen production by carrying out water electrolysis in a centrifugal acceleration field over a range of current densities, centrifugal acceleration, electrolyte concentration, temperature, and electrode geometry. 34
