IbD PU Deliverable 3.1 Jameson Cell in the manner of their mixing in the downcomer (Figure 66). The slurry is introduced as a jet stream from the top of the downcomer and draws in air through a second conduit to form a stable two-phase mixture. The minerals, which are coated with collector chemicals, attach to the bubbles. Driven by hydrostatic force, this mixture travels down the downcomer. The design allows for a high intensity mixing between the slurry and air, which results in the generation of dense foam of fine bubbles and maximizing the particle-bubble contacts. The probability of contacts is in the region of 100% and the slurry residence time is approximately 5-10 seconds. These allow for a much more compact column cell design. The ability of the Jameson Cell in recovering minerals quickly at superior concentrate grades have made it being utilized in base/precious metals, coal, oil sands, solvent extraction, and industrial minerals industries (Glencore, 2015).
