The device is called an “Elbow- Jet Air Classifier” (EJAC), which operates based on the Coanda effect. It is an efficient alternative to current centrifugal classifiers. EJAC works on the principle that the trajectory of a particle in an air stream is a function of the inertia and air resistance of the particle i.e. the particle diameter. The schematic of the device operation is in Figure 68. Particles are accelerated by an ejector before being injected by compressed air through a feed nozzle into the classifier. By the Coanda effect, the jet stream will flow along the Coanda block. Each particle injected into the classifier has an inertia that is dependent on its mass. The smallest particles that possess little inertia will be highly susceptible to the Coanda effect and will flow closer to the Coanda block. The larger particles with more inertia will be less affected, and 71
