High shear granulator/fluid bed drying This configuration is the most common in the production of pharmaceutical granules in industrial scale (Figure 80). A wet mill can even be placed in between the granulator and dryer. With a proper control system in place, the second batch can be loaded into the granulator whilst the first batch is being dried in the fluid bed. This approach is prevalent mainly due to the high costs of scaling up batch processes, which would require huge investments in hardware.
