The additional reaction mechanisms are displayed in Table 5.1. The microwave plasma is modeled under plug flow conditions, in which gas concen- trations are calculated as a series of infinitely thin ’plugs’. Each plug has a different composition from the ones before and the ones after it, traveling in the axial direction of the tube. The plugs are considered perfectly mixed and radially uniform in compo- sition, however species densities are constantly changing in the axial direction. Thus, densities are computed as a function of length along the discharge tube. Figure 5.16 shows a diagram of a plug flow reactor. The physical characteristics of the plug flow reactor are modeled to mimic the experimental microwave system. Thus the discharge tube radius is given to be 5 mm, and the input gas flow rate is 10 slm for Ar and ranges from 1-8 slm for CO2.
