Both of them have no cracking induced on their surfaces by rapid foaming process, no matter with H2O added as co-solvent or not. The comparison in the low level states that water is not effective in forming surface cracking when PCBs are treated in supercritical fluid CO2 at 2000 psi, 150 C with 3 hours. b) Surface cracking at the middle level The surfaces of two B2 boards from pure SCF CO2 and SCF CO2 plus 7 mole % H2O treatmentsat4000psi,200 Cwith3hoursarepicturedwithamicroscopeat10Xmagnitudefor comparison, as shown in figure 32 and 33 respectively. When compared, the PCB surface in figure 45 is full of small cracking induced by the foaming process at 4000 psi, 200 C for 3 hours when 7 mole % of water is added as co-solvent. With so big difference in their surface cracking comparison, the addition of water as co-solvent is proved having significant influence on forming of the PCB surface cracking. c) Surface cracking at the high level The surfaces of two B2 boards from pure SCF CO2 and SCF CO2 plus 7 mole % H2O treatment at 6000 psi, 250 C with 3 hours are pictured with a microscope at 10X for comparison, as shown in figure 34 and 35 respectively. 27
