It is also shown that significant quantities of resin remained within the CFRP after a reaction time of 60 minutes. This indicates that the resin used in the manufacture of this CFRP demonstrates greater resistance to the thermochemical processing than the BADGE based analogue. Due to the cross-sectional thickness of the sample it was necessary to separate the sample into three sections (A, B and C) for analysis by TGA. This constraint is due to the physical dimensions of the TGA pans. Separation into distinct sections is not possible pre-processing and impedes the use of TGA to directly determine the fibre mass fraction.
