[74] developed 2D and 3D numerical models of a M-TES container. They consisted of a submerged shell and tube heat exchanger and using erythritol as PCM (Figure 18) in order to recover IWH to further be delivered to a DH network located at 48 km. In this work, the technical feasibility, storage design parameters and the storage performance were discussed, concluding that partial storage is an essential operating strategy to reach economical solutions in M-TES systems. Wang et al. [77,78] presented a case study in Sweden in which the IWH from a combined heat and power (CHP) plant was recovered by means of the M-TES technology. This IWH was delivered to a DH network which was used to supply hot water during the summer and for space heating and tap water during the winter of a small village located 20 km far away from a CHP plant.
