Piston cooling may also aid in preventing oil breakdown. • Solid lubricants may aid in reducing wear at locations where the engine oil film becomes too thin for adequate lubrication. Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings should be tested along with other solid lubricants that can withstand high-temperature environments. • Heat lost to the environment is wasted heat with no chance for recovery.
