He spent four years on this assignment, working under Raymond G. Sotos, and was involved in all phases of tunnel operations, from maintenance to model buildup. After a tour in the Zero-Gravity facility, Sexton returned to the IRT in 1988, one of about a dozen mechanical technicians, electronic technicians, and electricians who sup- ported tunnel operations. These were the people who maintained the aging spray bars and controls, patched ice-damaged fan blades, integrated models into the test section, and performed thousands of other tasks that made the work of the researchers possible. Because of individuals like Sexton, who brought to their job not only a pride in work- manship but also a deep affection for the tunnel, the IRT ranked as NASA’s most productive large-scale wind tunnel.5 5 Interview with William P.
