The structural building units of zeolites are made of primary building unit (PBU) and secondary building unit (SBU) [33, 38, 43]. Zeolites structures consist of Si cations (𝑆𝑖4+) and Al cations (𝐴𝑙3+) that are walled by four oxygen (𝑂2−). The primary unit consist of TO4 tetrahedra forming the three dimensional framework. The negative charge is the result of exchanging Si for Al cations, which is then compensated by extra-framework cations such as 𝑁𝑎+ [44, 45]. Several representations of the primary building unit of zeolites have been suggested by researchers for the tetrahedron. The following figure shows the primary (basic) unit of zeolite framework. The rings are the simplest examples of the zeolite secondary building unit. All tetrahedra can form rings which builds the zeolite structures. The structure can provide an internal pore system comprised of unified cage- like voids with different size and volume; or it can provide uniform channels systems [39, 46, 47].
