MPTS shows slightly higher power density than MPTS. Both coupling agents show almost similar behaviour at the activation losses region whereas at ohmic region (150 mA/cm2), GMPTS shows more loss than MPTS. Moreover, at higher current density (~225mA/cm2), the mass transport loss of GMPTS was higher. This may be attributed to the better adhesion of MPTS with polymer matrix. In addition, it was reported in the literature [168] that MPTS-MOR membranes has lower ethanol permeability and higher proton conductivities than GMPTS-MOR membranes due the better interaction with epoxy group of Nafion polymer [168]. Due to these results, it was decide to eliminate GMPTS agent from this work and use only MPTS in all MOR modified binding layer MEAs.
