Figure 6-8: 3D model of the turbine rotor. 6.3 Computational Fluid Dynamics Before sending the turbine out for manufacturing, a complete CFD study of the full turbine stage was accomplished using ANSYS. In this section, the set up of turbulence model, physical domain, boundary conditions and the organic fluid (NOVEC 649) are presented. A grid-independent study isalso performed to ensure that the results are independent of the number of nodes. In addition, the results from the complete CFD analysis are presented in detail for steady state simulations.
