Once the adsorption stage is over, the feed supply is closed and the product end is connected to other columns for the co- current depressurization steps - I, II, and III. This causes the impurity front to spread further towards the product end, leading to flatter concentration profiles. It can also be seen that during this time, the area under the curve remains almost constant as the bulk of impurities are still present inside the column. By the end of the purge stage, the impurity level reaches the minimum level. Thereafter, the impurities are further pushed towards the feed end (area under the curve remains almost the same as only small amount of impurities enter the column) during the counter-current pressure equalization (PE I and PE II) and re-pressurization stages. The nonisothermal nature of gas-solid system under study is demonstrated in 79 Temperature, KPDF Image | Operation and Control of Pressure Swing Adsorption Systems
