Scheme of the VSA cycle. Saturated columns were obtained by flowing biogas pro- duced in the ABR (flow rate: 1.67 3 1025 Nm3 s21, pressure: 1.00 3 105 Pa) for 1800 s. The regeneration efficiency was determined by the breakthrough curves obtained by flowing the biogas from ABR in the regenerated zeolite cartridge. Breakthrough time is defined as the time in which down- stream concentration reaches 5% of the upstream concentra- tion. The experimental conditions for determining the breakthrough time were a pressure of 1.00 3 105 Pa (upstream the column) and a biogas flow rate of 3.33 3 1025 Nm3 s21. Once the optimal regeneration procedure had been identified, the breakthrough evolution after several adsorption/desorption cycles was also evaluated. VSA Operative Conditions 4 Month 2017 Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy (Vol.00, No.00) DOI 10.1002/ep The VSA was fed for 3 months with the biogas produced from the ABR. The biogas upgrading was performed flow- ing biogas on natural zeolite column with a flow rate of 3.33 3 1025 m3 s21 and a pressure of 1.00 3 105 Pa upstream the column. Regeneration was performed by flow- ing atmospheric air (pressure: 3.00 3 104 Pa; flow rate: 6.67 3 1025 Nm3 s21; regeneration time: 300 s). Figure 3 gives the scheme of the plant, and the operating pro- gramme of valves opening is given in the supporting infor- mation. The average column temperature was (292 6 5)8 K, and no significant temperature fluctuations were observed during the phases.
