Table 3 Specifications of the oven Model # Max. temp ( C) Time to reach max. Power Chamber Temperature 130 250 C 60 min 1.7 KW 15.5 x 18.5 x 27 in. In addition, a check valve with rated 10,000 psi pressure is installed between the gas booster and pressure vessel to ensure the pressurized gas will only flow in one direction to the pressure vessel, not vice versa. A needle valve with rated 10,000 psi is installed at the end of the system for holding and venting pressurized gas from the system. For safety considerations, a safety valve is mounted between the pressure vessel and the needle valve. The rupture disc in the safety valve is selected at 8,850 psi for automatic venting in case the system would be over pressurized. All the valves are purchased from High Pressure Equipment Company in Pennsylvania. The monitor module This is the monitoring components for reading the pressure and temperature parameters in the supercritical fluid system. A pressure transducer with digital readout from Omega is installed to measure the actual pressure in the vessel. The pressure transducer is calibrated through the CO2 bottle pressure before its real application. Also, a mechanical pressure gauge is mounted next to the pressure transducer to double check the real pressure in the vessel. The digital readout for the transducer is a process meter from Omega with four digits display. The detailed specifications for the pressure transducer are list in table 4. Table 4 Specifications of the pressure transducer Model # Max. pressure Output Accuracy Pressure port PX305-10KGI 10,000 psi 4-20 mA DC 0.25% full scale 1⁄4 NPT The temperature is measured through a thermocouple deeply extended to the bottom of a thermowell in the cover of pressure vessel which is specially designed for thermocouple placement. The thermowell is extended inside to the 8 inches depth of the vessel, which is only 2 inches above the bottom of the vessel and enable a precise measurement of the real temperature around the PCB specimen. The digital readout connected to the thermocouple is a temperature meter purchased from Omega, with 0.5 C accuracy and four digits display. In addition, two mechanical pressure gauges are working with a pressure regulator mounted on the CO2 bottle to measure the bottle pressure and inlet pressure to the gas booster. The supply module The supply module provides both gaseous medium to the system and air drive to the gas booster. In our experiment, bottled CO2 with an original pressure up to 900 psi is used from a local CO2 supplier, Aeriform Inc. The air drive to the gas booster is from the departmental air pipeline operated by an air compressor, rated for 17 cubic feet per min. Taper seal tubing and three way tees from High Pressure Equipment Company are used for connecting all the above components together. The specifications of tubing are listed in table 5. 8
