Experimental Preparation As described previously, CO2 was selected as the supercritical fluid substance due to its advantageous properties. Water is added as an environmental benign co-solvent to enhance the interaction between PCB resins and SCF CO2. To measure the solubility of PCB resins in SCF CO2, the weight reduction percent (WRP) is calculated for each PCB specimen by the ratio of reduced weight to their original weight as the quantitative indication of resins percent decomposed in SCF CO2 treatment. In the experiment, the WRP data serve as an index of PCB solubility by SCF CO2 treatment, with large WRP number representing better solubility of resin and better result for assisting recycling of PCB scraps. PCB specimen For the tests, five kinds of bare PCB scraps were selected as specimen to model the real PCB recycling processes after removal of mounted components. The specimen are provided by two companies: Enigma Interconnect Inc. in Vancouver, Canada and S1 technology Inc. in California, U.S.A. Per size of the board, the five PCB scraps are labeled as B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, respectively, as shown in table 6 and figure 3.
