When temperature is increased in the range between 150 C and 200 C, the PCB dissolution is increased slightly; when temperature is increased in the range between 200 C and 250 C, the PCB dissolution is increased rapidly by dozens of percent magnitude. After study on the interaction process, the big WRP increases between 200 C and 250 C are resulted from two probabilities: temperature effect and oxidization effect. From previous studies in pressure effect on WRP, the data shows a higher WRP increase at higher temperature conditions, so the temperature at 250 C will induce more weight reduction than that at 200 C, while existence of oxygen in the pressure vessel may catalyze the oxidization of PCB polymers in SCF CO2 treatment, which will cause degradation of PCB polymeric materials and hence enlarge the WRP increase at 250 C. The degradation of polymers blackens the PCB substrates and hence lowers the recycle value of PCB polymeric materials. The oxidization effect could be reduced by vacuuming the pressure vessel before PCB interactions with SCF CO2, which is not studied in this research work because of equipment unavailable during the experimental studies. Time effect The time change effect is investigated in this part through analysis of WRP data collected for the PCB dissolution by solubility of PCB resins in SCF CO2. The time effect is studied at two levels at 3 hours and 6 hours, respectively, under the three designed pressure and temperature levels. For each test, three times of depressurizations are evenly distributed in the PCB dissolution process and rapidly conducted (each finished within 10 seconds) to induce the foaming effects. The averaged WRP from five PCB specimens is then analyzed in three groups according to the three pressure levels for comparison and evaluation. a) Time effect at 2000 psi The result is shown in Figure 9 blow.
