FT-IR absorption spectroscopy Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) absorption spectroscopy is used as a second dia- gnostic to corroborate the measurements made by QCL spectroscopy. For quantification a similar approach to the one used in [60] has been used. However, compared to 49 cm path-length which is insufficient for much lower concentrations measured in this work, 7 m path length is used with help of a multi-pass cell. Instrumental broadening is the major broadening mechanism in FT-IR spectra which is 0.15 cm−1 for the instrument used in this work [60]. The exhaust gas passes first through the QCL and then the same sample is measured again by FTIR spectroscopy. The agreement between QCL and FT-IR is very good (see figure 3.6). In further discussion only measurements made by QCL are shown unless stated otherwise. In principle one absorption diagnostic is sufficient to measure the dens- ities of the products, but by using two different techniques, which require the gas to pass different lengths before being analyzed, we can also be sure that the products did not undergo chemical reactions outside the DBD reactor.
