Figure 3. Average binding energy of BNRs. Electronic structure of pristine BxNRs and ByNRs. The band structure of 8-ByNR and 8-BxNR are shown in Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 (d), respectively. As shown, 8-BxNR and 8-ByNR are metallic because of the band crossing at the Fermi level. In the case of AFM 8-ByNR, both spin up and spin down electrons have the same energy eigenvalues, leading to zero magnetization. While in the case of FM 8-ByNR, energy difference between spin up and spin down electrons at the Fermi level is substantial, suggesting that there might be spontaneous magnetization. Figure 1 (d) shows a band gap in borophene from Γ to Y point in k-space. Therefore, if certain external filed, say, strain, is applied, it may be possible to recover the band gap for ByNRs. Interestingly, we found that the electron band structure of ByNRs exhibits a “re-entry” behavior with the ribbon width (Ny). Both AFM and FM 7-PDF Image | Magnetic Properties of Borophene Nanoribbons
