Maturity and trends of the TES systems reviewed 44 54 Among the different technologies available to take advantage of IWH, TES is a powerful 55 thermal management tool that allows the geographically and temporarily match of the energy 56 supply and the energy demand, which is especially interesting considering the discontinuous 57 supply nature of the IWH and the distance between the IWH source and the heat demand. Thus, 58 TES systems can be used for on-site IWH recovering and reuse, if both the IWH source and the 59 heat demand are located at the same place, or off-site, if the IWH source and the heat demand 60 are separated within a kilometres distance range. If the demand is on-site, TES systems are used 61 to store the IWH which is later used in other internal processes, such as preheating incoming 62 water or combustion air, preheating furnace loads, etc. If the demand is off-site, M-TES system 63 are proposed to transport the IWH from the source to the heat demand. 55 62 The main objective of this paper is to review and compare the case studies where TES 63 technologies are implemented to recover and reuse IWH. Among the studies, it has been 64 identified the industrial and energetic sectors, where the implementation of TES technologies is 65 most rooted and the most used TES materials and systems.
